Hello, Hello!! It’s Laurie back with you this morning to show you my attempt at no-line watercoloring! I have played around with this technique in the past but I find it tricky. Fun, but tricky!
I thought the new Gorgeous Vases Stamp Set would be perfect for this technique as the flowers are on the smaller size. I started out by picking three of the bouquet images from the set and stamping them on Bristol Smooth paper. My ink of choice for no line colouring is Antique Linen Distress Ink. I know there are a ton of inks made specifically for this, and I own a couple, but I always go back to the Antique Linen.
I used Tombow Dual Brush Pens for the colouring. I find that I have way more control by using markers! All I did was add the marker where I wanted the colour to be the darkest. Basically, at the centre of each petal and at the base of the leaves. Them, using a small amount of water, pull the ink outward.
Now, I’ll be honest here, these didn’t look great. There was absolutely no definition to the leaves and flowers. This is my biggest struggle with this technique no matter how hard I try! The easiest way to remedy this is by using coloured pencils to add that detail!
I chose a slightly darker shade of each colour and added some flicks here and there. Still not perfect but much better!!
I used the third largest die from the Stitched Rectangles Set 2 set and cut one out of white cardstock and one from a lovely piece of patterned paper from the the new Pastel Dreams Paper Pad. I arranged the flowers to come in off the sides of the white panel. Any bits that were hanging off, I just snipped and tried to fill in any blank areas with them.
I stamped the sentiment, also from the Gorgeous Vases set, and adhered it to the patterned paper. I thought it looked pretty kind of crooked!
I added foam tape to the back of the panel and added it to a top fold, white card base. To finish off, I added a few black gems.
All in all, I’m happy with the way this turned out. This technique is a little daunting but the results can be so worth it! Plus, practice makes perfect, right?? Well, at least better 🙂
Thanks for stopping by! See you soon!
Laurie
