Ladybird wishes

Hi Pink and Main friends. It’s Donna here! What do you call these cuties? Ladybirds? Ladybugs? Something else? In Japanese, they are called tentoumushi because apparently they fly towards the sun, so they have the name of the sun god as part of their name. Whatever they’re called, they’re one of my favourite bugs, and so today’s card is a ladybird celebration!

There are two flying ladybirds in the Ladybug Garden stamp set, as well as a bunch of other flower images( stay tuned for those!) and some other ladybirds and seven different sentiments. I took the two flying ladybirds and stamped them all over a piece of white card, mixing up the direction that they were flying in. I used Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black because it won’t smudge with Copics. I then chose some reds and cool greys to colour them all. For the black spots, I used a black marker, as I didn’t need to do any blending, and it’s hard to get into the small corners with the brush nibs of the Copics.

Once they were all coloured, and I’d double and triple checked and filled in all the bits I’d missed, I used the matching Ladybug Garden dies to cut out some masks for each ladybird. The dies cut a little bigger than the images, which meant that the mask left a little white halo around each cutie when I ink blended over the top using my Ergonomic Blender Brush. I used Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide for this blending, and kept it pretty subtle, although a bold sky would look great too. (and would certainly be easier to photograph – ask me how I know!)

The sentiment comes from the same set and it’s heat embossed in white over Versamark ink. I used the same red paper for the sentiment strip and the background.

I look forward to sharing more of this stamp set with you in the very near future!

Until next time, enjoy the little things in life,

Blessings,

Donna
