Backyard Butterfly – “No-Line” Watercoloring

Hello there!

I’ve got a fun no-line watercolor project for you today featuring Pink & Main’s wonderful new stamp set, “Dearest Friend”. This large, cropped butterfly image can be colored in so many different ways and I decided to stamp it on kraft card stock with Distress Oxide Ink and watercolor it realistically. I have such beautiful butterflies in my backyard all summer and those that often appear to be drab brown underneath, open their wings and end up looking like a brightly jeweled kaleidoscope – this is the coloration that I was trying to capture in watercolor!

Here is a progression of the no-line painting:

Thanks so much for joining me today and be sure to check out all of the great NEW products over in the Pink & Main Shop! The MAY Release is really something special and I’ve filled my sketchbook with design layouts for all of the gorgeous butterflies!

Take care and have a wonderful day!

  1. You are an amazing artist. Do you have a process video on how you painted? I’m in awe! Your butterfly is beautiful!

    1. Hi Liz! Thanks so much for the kind comments! I’m sorry that I don’t have a video of the painting steps – I will tell you that it took about 3 hours, start to finish, to complete this card! I hope the process photos will help show how the painting went! Hopefully I will get my video skills up and rolling in the near future! Take care! Rachelle : )
