Sweet Stenciled Hugs Valentine’s Day Card

Hello, this Caitlin from CaitlinAnnaleeCards again and I am so excited to share some Valentine’s Day card inspiration with you today. As soon as I saw the new Conversation Hearts Stencils (set of 2), I knew that I needed to use it to make something sparkly! I started out with an A2 sized piece of plain white, heavy weight card stock and the open hearts stencil from the set. I used one of the Mini Ergonomic Blender Brush to blend two different pink inks over the hearts in small circular motions trying to create lighter and darker areas to add interest and contrast. Then I took the second, detailed stencil and used small pieces of washi tape to cover all of the hearts that had words so that I would only be using the ones with patterns and lined it up with the colored hearts (which was actually super easy). Then I took one of the Palette Knives and a small dollop of the Glossy Gel and spread a thin, even layer over each pattern section on the card. I removed the stencil poured some of the Raspberry Super Fine Glitter over the card with a piece of printer paper underneath so that the extra could be easily poured back into the jar.

I set the background panel to the side to dry and stamped the milk and cookie image from the One Smart Cookie Stamp Set with alcohol marker safe ink. I colored in the images with copic markers, keeping the shading very simple and added white gel pen highlights to the milk glass. Breaking up the black lines of the milk inside the glass really help to sell the idea of the light reflecting off the glass around the milk. I die cut this sweet couple out with the coordinating Dies and then got to work with the sentiment. I used a scrap piece of the same white card stock as the panel to die cut out the shadow layer of the Big Hugs Die and used the rest of the paper to create an ink blended ombre with the same pinks as the hearts. Once the ink blending was done, I die cut out the “Hugs” and glued the two layers together with the EZ Squeeze Craft Glue. Now that everything was pretty dry, I trimmed down the heart panel to 5 in x 3.75in and adhered it to a side folding A2 sized white card base with a nice white boarder all the way around. I glued the Hugs sentiment into place in the upper left corner and then the cookies and milk in the bottom right corner.

I really love the monochromatic feel of this card and think the glitter really adds a fun twist to the background. This would be an amazing Valentines Day card but since it doesn’t actually say those words anywhere, it would also make a great anytime-love card. I hope you are feeling inspired to try mixing different techniques into one card to see how different layers of texture and color create a really fun end result!
