Stretch your Supplies – Rainbow Basket

It’s official – the rainy season has begun! Japan’s seasons are so regular that it’s only one day away from the usual start date. There is so much that’s interesting about living in a different country.

It’s Donna here with a very different use for Pink and Main’s Rainbow Die. The more I looked at this sweet rainbow with its great styling, the more I could see a basket.

To create the basket, I first made a piece of brown watercoloured card. I used Color Burst powder in Sepia as the main colour, but also dipped the dried paper into Distress Ink in Dried Marigold and Walnut Stain And Perfect Pearls to get the variation in colour that I wanted. I cut two of the rainbows so that I could use the outside band as a handle for the basket. I cut one of the rainbows right near the edge of the paper, which gave me the flattened base that you see on the bottom of the basket.

The flowers and the sentiment come from a stamp set called Sweet Bouquets, which is one of my all time favourite Pink and Main Stamps . I coloured the image with Copics, and cut it out with the matching die, then assembled the card. I used some wide double sided tape , laid face up on my desk to stick the basket pieces to. I then trimmed off the excess and treated the whole basket base as one piece. I tucked the flower bouquet into the basket and stuck the pieces together before adding them to the card base as one piece, using foam tape.

I stuck the handle flat to the card, tucking it in behind the basket, and stamped the sentiment. The white background piece, and the blue paper from the Back to Basics paper pad were cut using the Stitched Rectangles 1 and 2 respectively.

I hope this has inspired you to think outside the box when it comes to using your dies. I think this rainbow is a classic example of making something entirely different with a shape. Perhaps I should have made the sun in the die set into flowers, and the clouds into leaves? There’s always next time!
