Sneak Peek: Whale of a Time

Hi everyone! It’s Michelle here and today I have a sneak peek post for a Pink and Main stamp set coming out SOON – I just couldn’t wait because it is so adorable!!! The set is called Whale of a Time and it has some big and adorable images!

For my card, I really wanted to highlight one of these large whale images, which I stamped on watercolor paper, colored with Distress Markers, and then fussy cut out.

To do this, I created my own unique paper of sorts by covering a sheet of paper with strips of washi and even glitter tape. I used all different widths of tape to make sure that it stayed interesting – when necessary, I used my X-acto knife to cut reeeeally teeny strips of tape. This allowed me to use lots of strips without taking up too much space! Oh, and I also made sure to leave a good amount of white space at the bottom for my sentiment.By the way, the sentiment I used is also from an upcoming set, Birthday Wishes, which is chock full of birthday sentiments – which I ALWAYS need.

It helps to stick to a color scheme with your tapes – I used teal, yellow, and gold. This is also helps if you don’t have a ton of washi tape in each color, because you only need a few! And if you have an extra special tape, like the glitter tape I used, pull it out!! I love the extra pizazz it adds.

Then, I cut a hole out of the center of this DIY “patterned paper” which would be a home and spotlight for our precious whale. I popped both the front panel and the whale up on foam adhesive to make them stand out, and mounted it to a pretty green cardstock that matched just slightly to the teal color I used in the tapes. And that’s it!!

I love how those washi strips came out, and it REALLY comes out nice if you follow the tips I explained! Sometimes when I don’t, I don’t like the effect quite as much as for this card.

So, hope you’re getting excited for the new Pink and Main release – it’ll be here soon enough!! 🙂
