One Sketch, Five Cards

Hello Pink and Main friends. It’s Donna here, and I’ve got a set of cards that shows a great way to get the most from your patterned papers.

To make each card, you need three different papers. I’ve used papers from the Thankful set because it has a mix of background and feature papers. It seems like many of you had the same idea, because the paper pad is sold out! You can get it as part of the Crafty Courtyard Thankful kit which is a one off purchase of a past kit, so you don’t need a subscription.

Other paper pads that would work brilliantly for this design are Best Friends, Enchanted Garden or Be Merry.

If you’d like to see the making of one of these cards, I’ve made a video which has all the details. You can see it here:

This card has three elements.

  • Cut one paper to 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8′ (the background)
  • Cut one paper to 5 3/8″ x 1 inch (the horizontal strip)
  • Cut the feature paper to 3 1/4″ x 3 3/4″

Then, for each of these papers, cut a piece of plain cardstock to be 1/8″ bigger each direction. This will stop the busy papers butting directly up against each other and will keep the card looking neat. I usually choose a darker paper than the feature papers, but I’ve made one with a lighter paper so you can see the effect. (Above)

The background and inch wide strip are adhered directly to the card base. The feature panel is a little more complicated because the card now has several different heights of paper. I glued two layers of paper to the top and bottom of this ‘square’ and then put foam tape on the whole thing so that the final result would be nice and level.

The same goes for the sentiments, which are adhered with glue, one layer of foam tape, and two layers of foam tape, all in different parts of the one sentiment! The thanks and thankful sentiments are cut from one of the patterned papers, and the Happy Birthday is from a fun stamp set called Special Gift.

Five cards hasn’t really made a dent in this paper pad, but a set of 15 definitely would! I think that a matching set of cards like this would make a lovely gift set, and doesn’t take too long to make.

Until next time,

May your paper never run out!

Blessings,
Donna
