Merry and Bright Little Penguin

Hi friends! This is Caitlin and today I am sharing a really cute and sweet Christmas card that could be changed to a winter card just by swapping out the sentiment. I have such a warm place in my heart for the Mugs and Kisses stamp set and I have been so excited for the time to come when I could pull it back out and use it this year. This was the week and I really wanted to feature the little penguin mug this time around. I sorted through my pattern papers and decided to use the Winter Wonderland paper pad. It looks like this one might have gone away but I think the winter themed plaids from Year Round Plaids would work really well for the same color theme.

I started out by stamping the mug, the whipped cream and two of the marshmallow piles with the new Premium Dye Ink in Asphalt. This is an alcohol safe in and is great for use with Copic Markers. I colored in the mug and sprinkles to match the pattern paper as much as I could and then kept the shading on the whipped cream and marshmallows very light and simple. I used the coordinating dies to cut everything out and then I realized I needed a good sentiment to ground the whole little scene I wanted to create. I am in love with the sentiments that have coordinating dies that have been coming out recently to I borrowed a sentiment from the Winter Cardinals Stamp set because it has the matching dies. I stamped the sentiment with the new Lakeside Premium Dye Ink and cut it out. Once I had all my little pieces ready, I had to prepare my card base.

I trimmed down the chevron pattern paper to 5.5 in x 4.25 in and adhered it to a side folding A2 card base. Then I trimmed down a piece of white card stock to be 4.75 in x 3.5 in and ran it through my die cutting machine with the Basket embossing folder. I am so in love with this texture and I think it gives a very cozy, blanket look to this card specifically. I adhered the white panel down flat to the card base with the pattern creating a really bold frame around it. I added the sentiment next with thin foam tape so that it would have a little dimension. I tucked the penguin and marshmallows down behind the sentiment with liquid glue and then added the whipped cream with foam tape as well. The final step was to add some of the white crystals from the Cool Jellies Gems set with liquid glue, tucking them under the popped up elements for a peek-a-boo look.

I am so in love with this card and I hope you love it too! I can’t believe that tomorrow is December! I hope you had an amazing November and I’ll see you next week!
