Hello Pink & Main fans and welcome back! It’s Laurie with you this morning to share a mixed media card. Well, my attempt at one! Mixed media and Art Journaling have intrigued me for awhile. I don’t own a journal or all the specific glues, pastes and other mediums usually used but I wanted to give it a try with what I have on hand.
I started with an A2 sized panel of Strathmore Mixed Media Paper. I love this stuff and use it more than watercolour paper! I dug through my stash of P&M stencils and chose the Petals Stencil. I applied a white embossing paste messily to three areas of the panel.
The two Distress Oxide Inks I have down are Picked Raspberry and Salty Ocean. After the paste was dry, I added water to the inks and smooshed the paper into it. I did this a few times, drying in between smooshing. I added Dusty Concord Ink and repeated the process.
I added some white and black paint splatters all over the background. I did find some white and black acrylic paint to use! At this point, I pretty happy with the way it is looking. But I also felt it needed more…
I took the Butterfly Background Stamp and only inked a portion. I stamped off once then stamped on the panel. Again, I left this messy and not perfect!
The focal image is from the You Can Fly Stamp Set. I black heat embossed it onto the same mixed media paper and fussy cut it out right to the black line. I also stamped the antenna portion of the image directly onto the inked panel. This just made fussy cutting easier!
I added some Picked Raspberry and Dusty Concord inks to parts of the butterfly along with some sparkle pen. I used liquid glue to adhere it down.
The sentiment come from the You Can Fly set. I actually snipped apart the sentiment so I could have three strips. After heat embossing that as well, I trimmed around each word and added some uneven lines around the edges. I also used liquid glue to adhere these.
After it was adhered, I took a damp baby wipe and removed some of the ink off the embossing paste…it worked like a charm!
I had so much fun with this! But now I know why crafters have glass mats! This was a fairly messy process, haha!
I hope you enjoyed my attempt at some mixed media. I’m sure you have all the supplies you need to give this a shot!
Thanks for stopping by. See you soon!
