Altering Patterned Papers

Hello Pink and Main friends. It’s Donna here, and we’re getting ready for the rainy season here in Japan. I have a set of three cards to share with you today that give you a way to stretch your supplies by using patterned papers in a new way.

I have chosen three different papers, with different degrees of pattern to show you the differences. They range from tone on tone, to something with a moderate contrast to a black and yellow high contrast paper. Each gives different but equally lovely results. Onto each of these papers, I stamped the Special Gift background stamp, and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.

Firstly, I have used a pale tone on tone yellow stripe from the Back to Basics Paper Pad. Using the Ergonomic Blending Brush, I went over the paper with a mid orange , pale orange and a buttery yellow. Because the pattern on this paper is so subtle it can only just barely be seen on the finished card, but the base layer of rich yellow shows through.

Next I chose a medium blue spotted paper from the Pastel Dreams Paper Pad. The blue and white offer a bigger contrast that can be seen much more clearly, especially at the top of the card. This time I blended three different blues, once again aiming for an ombré look.

Finally, I chose a high contrast paper, but still one with not too many different colours. The black and yellow of this paper from the Sweater Weather Paper Pad is most definitely high contrast, and the pattern shows through clearly after blending two oranges and a red.

All three of the cards were completed in the same way. I chose a darker piece of paper then cut the sentiment out of the centre of it, where it would be hidden when I used the rest of the piece as a matting layer. I cut the patterned paper out using this stitched rectangles die, and glued it to my matting panel, hiding the holes in the middle. I then mounted the matted panel onto a white card base

The sentiment uses the Celebrate Die and matting layer, as well as the coordinating stamp set, with more white heat embossing to keep the card consistent. Here is a final look at all three cards.

I hope you are encouraged to get out your patterned papers and look at them again. I look forward to sharing with you again soon. Stay safe and healthy.

Blessings,

Donna
