Hello Sweet Friend – Stretching your Stencils

Hello Pink and Main friends. It’s Donna here.

I’ve been loving the stencils that Pink and Main has been releasing lately, and I’ve been blending to my heart’s content using the Ergonomic Blending Brushes. But today, I thought I’d share a card that uses a different technique.

The stencil that I’m using today is called Garden Gate, and it’s one of my favourites. I love using it with light ink blending behind a feature image. Today though, I lay the stencil on some watercolour paper and sprinkled some Color Burst powders in yellow, orange and red onto the centre of the stencil, concentrating the darker colors where I wanted my sentiment to go.

I then spritzed with water to activate the powders. If you spritz only a little you get the lovely speckled look that the powders can achieve, or if you used more water, you get a more traditional watercolour look. It’s up to you. Once I was happy with the amount of colour on my paper, I carefully removed the stencil and gave it a good wash (those powders are super concentrated!) and then left the panel to dry. I then cut it out with a Stitched Rectangle 2 die. I also cut a black panel using the Stitched Rectangles 1 set. I love how these two sets work together to give nice thin borders.

The hello sentiment for this card is one that I reach for all the time. It’s from the Wreath Base die set, and I find that it’s just the right size to give a strong sentiment with out covering up the background. I cut the word hello three times from black cardstock. The smaller sentiment is from a stamp set called Daisy Bugs which has a number of sweet smaller images too.

Some mixed sequins from my stash completed the card.

I hope that you are enjoying your days, and I look forward to sharing with you all again soon.

Blessings,

Donna
