Hello Pink and Main friends. Have you been enjoying the March release? I certainly have. I have broken out the coloured pencils for today’s card, featuring the sweetest little giraffe.
I stamped the giraffe image and the “Let’s eat cake” sentiment from the Party Animal Stamp set onto some textured paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I then used my Polychromos pencils to colour the giraffe. I used many layers, building them up as I went to get the graduations in colour. To make the sky, I used the side of the pencil lead, rubbing it very gently over the paper, omitting some areas to be the clouds.
I also added a few tufts of grass. At this stage, I cut the image using a stitched rectangle, but I was a little worried that the image was too washed out. Then, to the rescue came the gorgeous rich tones of the background paper. This is from a March release paper pack called Year Round Plaids. It has six different plains fro each of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, and this brown and green plaid was perfect for the job. I also added a mat layer of dark brown to frame the image.
I don’t get my coloured pencils out nearly enough. I find them soothing to colour with, and this card was no exception. Something about the layers of colour on those repeated splotches on the giraffe was very calming.
Until next time, may you have a reason to eat cake!!!
Blessings,
Donna
