Butterfly Beauty

Hello Pink and Main friends. It’s Donna here, coming to you from Japan where we’ve just had our first snow for the season. (very exciting news for an Aussie girl like me, even though not a speck of it stayed on the ground!)

I have a card to share with you today which uses the Hello Beautiful stamp set and matching dies.

This stamp is a gorgeous two layer butterfly. Either of the layers would work alone, or they can be layered up for an intricate look, which is what I’ve done today. For the first layer, I stamped the solid image using a range of blues. I inked the stamp up with the darkest colours towards the centre of the butterfly, and faded to a paler colour at the edges.

I lined the second layer up directly over the first using my stamping platform, and then heat embossed this layer in gold. I also did a second butterfly in silver that will make it to another card very soon, I’m sure. You can see this in the photo below.

The background for this card was made using the Plaid 2 and Plaid 3 stamps from the new release. I made a few different colour combinations, but found they were all too heavy for the delicate butterfly until I stumbled on the idea of using Ink on 3 Fade out ink as one of my colours. This gave me the subtlety I was looking for.

The sentiment comes from the same stamp set, and I die cut this using the smallest of the rectangles in the Stitched Rectangles 2 set. I partially cut one end of the card, then slid the die along and cut the other end. If you haven’t done this before, you can cut only part of a die if you leave some of it hanging out from between the two plates, so that no pressure is applied to that area. It’s a great way to stretch your dies, literally in this case!

As always, almost everything was popped up with foam tape. Man, I love that stuff! A blue base was all that was needed to complete the card.

Until next time,

May there be butterflies in your life!

Blessings,

Donna
