Faux Belly Band Card

Hello Everyone and welcome to Pink And Main blog!

Today I am, Ksenija, back with a card showing you an elegant way to use stamps and coordinating steel dies.

Lately I became very much keen on die cutting on the edge. This technique is easy to apply if you have coordinating steel dies for your favourite stamps.

My card features two stamps – You Can Fly and Butterfly Background from July release.

How To Make a Faux Belly Band:

  • Trace the borders of a belly band with a pencil onto a white card stock panel.
  • Position You Can Fly die over the traced belly band and tape it temporary to the card panel.
  • Make a sandwich for your cutting machine squeezing between the plates only the part above the traced border. The edges of the plates should be aligned with the border of the belly band.
  • Run the sandwich through the machine.
  • Keep the die in place and squeeze the lower part of the die and the card panel aligning plates along the lower border of the belly band.
  • Run the sandwich through the machine again.
  • When you remove the steel die, you should have die cuts above and below the belly band border.
  • Trim excess of paper along the borders with a trimmer or scissors with long blades.

I stamped an image of a big patterned butterfly from You Can Fly stamps set in Distress ink, then covered the impression with fine transparent embossing powder and heat embossed it. The sentiment from the same stamps set is also stamped in black and heat embossed with transparent powder.

To blend Distress ink only to the butterfly I used a negative die cut as a mask. I blended Squeezed Lemonade, Carved Pumpkin, Fired Brick and Aged Mahogany Distress inks on the butterfly.

To make the background for this gorgeous butterfly I choose a neutral colour card stock panel in Linen. Using my MISTI positioning tool I stamped once Butterfly Background in a dye ink matching the tone of the card note. Then I applied Vintage Photo Distress ink with a blending tool onto the stamp edges and stamped down again. This technique helped me to achieve more intensive impression colour only on the edges of the card note.

To finish off my card I popped the Faux Belly Band with a super thick foam tape for additional interest.

Faux Belly Band with the partially die cut butterfly has a very elegant look. A white stripe visually pops on the neutral background and the brightly inked butterfly attracts attention.

I hope I inspired you to try this technique for You Can Fly stamps and dies set.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
