Watercolour butterflies

Hello crafty friends. Donna here sharing a set of cards using the glorious butterfly background stamp. This stamp is one of my favourite Pink and Main releases of all time.

I have shared cards in the past using this stamp in completely different ways, but today, I have a loose watercolour look to share with you. I achieved this by colouring directly onto the stamp with watercolour pens (in this case I used zigs, but many other pens would do a wonderful job). I used two complementary colours for each butterfly.  I then lightly misted the stamp with clean water before stamping onto watercolour paper. There was still some ink remaining on the stamp after the first stamping, so I lightly sprayed again and restamped for a second, and then repeated this for a third, even lighter card.

You can see below the difference between the first and third stamping, as the colours got lighter. You can also see the areas that got either more or less water , so that the butterflies appear to come in and out of focus.

To construct the cards, I cut the watercolour panels using the stitched rectangles dies and mounted them onto kraft cards with foam tape. The sentiment is from the Bowtiful stamp set, and this I heat embossed in white on black card. The final touch was some twine, and a small bow for each of the cards.

I hope you are inspired to try this technique out. If you have this butterfly stamp, it really is perfect for this type of colouring.

Until next time, may your days and nights be crafty!

Blessings,

Donna
