Hello Pink and Main Friends! I hope your week is off to a good start. It’s Donna here, with a sunset scene on a card. We had a bit of a funny scene at our home during the making of this card when hubby (who is actually my biggest supporter) came in and accused me of not really cardmaking, because I was squatting over a box on the floor, and he couldn’t see the specks of Water Gems on the card. Read on…
To make the watercolour background for this card, I cut a piece of watercolour paper to size, then sprinkled the tiniest amounts of Water Gems in five different colours across in horizontal zones. I cannot stress enough just how little of the powder you need for a really vibrant punch of colour. These powders will last for decades! I did this with the watercolour paper in a box on the floor, so that I wouldn’t overspray in the next step. It was at this point that I was interrupted by the rude comments above! Once the powders were all in place, I sprayed the paper from a distance with clean water. You don’t want to go too up close and powerful, or you may end up colouring parts of your craft space that you didn’t intend! Once the powders started moving, I used my heat tool to set the colours and dry the card. If you leave the water for too long, the powders keep blending, and it will look more like the paint was applied with a brush, but I wanted the pops of colour and the paler spaces, so I used the heat tool almost immediately.
Once the panel was dry, I ran it through my die cutting machine to flatten it, and then stamped a bunch of flowers and two butterflies from the Wildflowers Stamp Set using Versafine Onyx Black ink, which is a rich deep black. I then added a sentiment which I made by partially stamping a sentiment from the Butterfly Sketches Stamp Set.
This card would be a great one to make in multiples, as you could easily make several backgrounds at once and then stamp the flowers on each of them. I used my MISTI, so the flowers and butterflies were stamped all in one pass.
Until next time, may your days be full of beautiful sunsets.
Blessings,
Donna
