Sunset Silhouette Card

Hi friends, this is Caitlin from Caitlin Annalee Cards and today I am sharing this sunset-inspired card. This is a watercolor card for people who are nervous to watercolor (like me) and it came together so easily. To start out, I trimmed down a piece of water color paper to be 4 x 5.25 inches and prepped it with the Magic Anti-static Brush. I stamped a few of the florals from the Wildflowers 2 stamp set with the Embossing Ink using my MISTI stamping platform so that I could get a really good impression. The watercolor paper doesn’t have intense texture, but it does have some so you want to make sure you get a nice, clean impression.

I poured the Licorice embossing powder over the images and heat set them with my heat gun. I also ran the edge of the ink pad along the bottom of the paper and added embossing powder there as well to give the look of grass or the ground. I let the paper cool down for a few minutes and then I brushed clean water across the whole panel with a medium flat brush. I added a drop each of the Dress Shop and Construction Ink Refills to a plastic paint palette and then swiped a line of the pink to the bottom of the paper. I used more clean water to blend out the top edge and then added another stripe of the orange to the middle of the paper and repeated the process. I let the paper dry for about an hour and then I added it to an A2 sized panel of Asphalt Card Stock.

To finish off the card, I wanted a sentiment that wouldn’t take away from the background or break up the color change too much so I stamped one of the Let’s Celebrate Stamp Set stamps onto a scrap of vellum with embossing ink and heat embossed it with the Warm Sunset embossing powder. I used the coordinating die to cut it out and added it to the panel with tape runner. To add just a little more sparkle, I added 3 different confettis to match the ombre of the background – Flamingo, Peaches N Cream, and Gardenia. I really love how the soft colors of the scene look against the black images and frame. I think this would be a great card for so many occasions and could also easily be a sympathy card with a different sentiment.
