Hello Pink and Main friends… I am just over the moon to be creating my first post for the Pink and Main design team. It is such an amazing opportunity to work among such talented people using such adorable and awesome products.
For those of you who haven’t seen my work before, you will soon learn I absolutely love to color with alcohol markers. I am always trying out new blends and adding in other mediums to create the look I am after. Hopefully I can pass along a few tips and tricks.
The moment I saw the Ears to You stamp set, I was in love. Who can resist adorable elephants!
To start, I selected my elephant image and stamped it on Copic-friendly paper. I was after a one-layer look, so next I stamped the same elephant image onto masking paper and fussy cut out the mask. After applying my mask to my card panel, I selected the balloon image from the stamp set and, since I wanted it to look like the elephant was holding the balloon strings, I cut the arm off the mask before stamping.
Next, I took a little masking tape and taped off an area slightly above the elephants feet before ink blending a soft halo around the elephant using Salt Water Taffy Distress Oxide inks. I finished off the scene with a little white paint spatter before removing all my masks for coloring.
When coloring, I like to have a decent amount of contrast to help give shape to my images and sometimes that can be tough to achieve with markers alone. With this cute elephant, after I was done with markers, I enhanced the shadows with a soft application of Black Prismacolor Pencil (PC 935) before adding in some highlights with White Prismacolor Pencil (PC 938).
Once I was done with coloring, I stamped my sentiment using a sentiment from the stamp set and cut it out the panel using the Stitched Rounded Rectangle Dies. I then cut a mat using the Scallop Rectangles Dies and adhered them all to a piece of pattern paper selected from the Word to Me 6×6 Paper Pack. My scene was still looking a little empty so I finished everything off with a bright pink bow made using the Stitched Bow Dies set. This die set is definitely a favorite of mine.
Thank you so much for checking out the post. I can’t wait to share more with you in the coming weeks!
