Savannah Learns to Color #32: CAS Whale Done, Grad

Hello, Pink & Main friends and fans!

It’s Savannah O’Gwynn, and I’m back to share a fun graduation card using a P&M set released last month and a die set from this month, as well as the masking technique!

Back when I was a kid (that makes me sound old! LOL!), graduation was only in May. However, nowadays graduation is in May, June, December, and really any time if someone takes classes online.

My nephew graduated high school right in the middle of our move… so his graduation card is a bit late:) But that’s fine because this cute whale die cut works perfectly for the card design!

SLTC#32, Colored Image #36

I didn’t really color much for this image, but it still counts for coloring, right?! LOL!

This card is very simple- I mixed and matched the graduation hat from the Way to Go Owl stamp/die set with the whale image from the Ocean Animals dies to create a “whale graduate”. I added some of the patterned paper from the NEW Ocean Life 6×6 paper pad… and then I had to create the custom sentiment (which is the hardest part of this entire card)!

Here’s how I created the custom sentiment:

  • Find sentiments that match in font or style that create the word you want (see photo below for the word DONE)
  • Using masking tape, clear tape, or washi tape, MASK parts of the sentiment that will NOT be used (for example, I masked GET WHAL + SOON so I could stamp the letter E)
  • Ink up the masked sentiment, pull off the mask revealing the correctly inked letter (no other section should be inked since it was masked— if it is inked, start over! LOL), and stamp on your project
  • Repeat with other letters or sections of sentiments to complete your custom sentiment
  • NOTE: For the word GRAD, I used scissors to cut the sentiment apart so that I only had those four letters together (see second photo below).

Masking stamps is one of my favorite techniques for making custom sentiments! TIPS: I like to find parts of words that are at the END of the sentiment so that masking is easier. See how the ON from SOON is at the end and can be used for the word DONE?

I hope my card has inspired you to pull out your P&M goodies and create today using the masking technique to make a custom sentiment.

I’ll be back with MORE to share soon! Please remember to share what you create using these techniques, if you are learning to color with me, or if you use these P&M stamp/die sets so I can leave you some love ❤️

THANKS so much for stopping by! Happy crafting!!! Hugs ❤️ Savannah
