Savannah Learns to Color #29/30: Bald Eagles

Hello, Pink & Main friends and fans!

It’s Savannah O’Gwynn, and I’m back to share FOUR colored images using a P&M set released last month!

Because I was MIA last month due to my recent move, I wasn’t able to play with this super cute Bald Eagle image from the American Eagle stamp/die set. Independence Day is quickly approaching so I colored some of these images for a fun card to celebrate July 4th…. and I used one of the images for a BIRTHDAY card!!!

Travis and I were invited to a local event by our new neighbors last weekend. We were told that it was an annual event here in SC where a local band/choir performs American themed songs to celebrate our Nation’s history and to honor those who have served. This was their 37th year for this event. WOW! It was amazing!!!! There were indoor fireworks (who knew these were safe!?!?) and wonderful music! We heard from our Senator and several other local officials. And of course, I cried and got weepy as they honored soldiers from every branch of the military and played our National Anthem! We had a great time with our neighbors!!!

To say thank you to our neighbors for thinking of us, I created a simple Independence Day card for them.

This design was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest, but I added my own flare:) I colored three different Bald Eagles because I wasn’t sure which one I would use for this card. I added glitter, gold ink for the stars, and confetti to the embossed silver stars. I love how this card turned out… (guess I better tell the truth!)…

The REAL Story… Lessons Learned

I do love how this card turned out- Trav loves it too! However, my coloring was tested while creating this card, and I was definitely frustrated because of the following:

  • The Bald Eagle with the sparklers was ruined when I opened an alcohol ink marker over it and dripped orange ink on its face. I thought I could fix it by “erasing” this dot using the colorless marker… major mistake. So then I tried making it look like the eagle was blushing… major mistake #2. Then I started over and colored the face to fussy cut and replace the original image at least four more times because I couldn’t get the gray colors to mix correctly.

Lesson Learned: none of this would have happened if I opened my marker over the side of the table and not directly above the image🤦🏼‍♀️
  • The Bald Eagle with the festive flag was ruined when I went to die cut it. Due to crafting out of boxes and on card tables, I don’t have a sturdy place to die cut. The die seemed to have moved while die cutting despite that I had washi tape holding it in place. This image was also colored four times before I finally got it right…and then I noticed that his body is darker than the others because I used the wrong alcohol markers!

Lessons Learned: 1. Use LOTS of washi tape to die cut when die cutting on a card table that isn’t sturdy and 2. keep the markers you used OUT until the entire project is complete so you don’t have to guess which markers you used if you mess up AFTER an image is done🤦🏼‍♀️

Overall… I had fun creating this card, learned a few lessons, and I have two extra images to use for other cards!!!

BONUS CardSLTC#30, Colored Image #34

My Dad’s birthday was also last weekend, so I inked up and colored the Bald Eagle with the sparklers for his birthday card. I changed the sparklers to be orange and blue to make it fit the birthday theme and colors better. I love this card (no mistakes were made when coloring him! LOL!)!! Be sure to check it out HERE on my IG page:)
BONUS TIP: Use these images for other holidays!

I hope my cards have inspired you to pull out your P&M goodies and create today by coloring some images for their intended holidays or by using these colored images for OTHER holidays!

I’ll be back with MORE to share soon! Please remember to share what you create using these techniques, if you are learning to color with me, or if you use these P&M stamp/die sets so I can leave you some love ❤️

THANKS so much for stopping by! Happy crafting!!!

Hugs ❤️ Savannah
