Christmas Cuties

Hello Pink and Main friends. It’s Donna here, and I have a super cute card to share with you today. But first, I have a confession to make. I’m not really a fan of red and green together. I like them both, but find the combination very heavy, so my aim today was to make a lighter, brighter card for you.

For today’s card, I got to trial the Mini Maker die cutting machine. Here in Japan I have a tiny student desk to work on, so I have to have my die cutting machine across the room and get up and down every time I want to cut something. It was such a treat to be able to just lean to the right and cut without having to get my daily workout just to make a card! For a card like this with lots of little bits, it was so handy!

So, onto the card! I first stenciled the background squares. I used a new stencil for the first time, called Mask It In-Line. This stencil can give you three perfectly lined up circles, or squares, depending on what you choose. I decided on squares for today’s card. I used two colours of ink for each of the squares to get some variation and movement.

I used images from Christmouse and Stocking Stuffers stamp sets for my three main focus points. I stamped these in an ‘alcohol marker friendly’ black ink and then coloured them with my copic markers. I actually laid the images down on the squares so that I could choose colours that would provide a good contrast. The images were cut out with the Christmouse and Stocking Stuffers matching dies.

The letters are cut from the Thin Alpha dies. I love that I can get 9 letters across a single card using this set. I used the same Copic colours to shade the letters, making an ombre effect with the darker shade at the bottom. I then cut two of leach letter from a plain coloured cardstock that would match the colour on top. I glued the three layers together and once they were attached to the card, I added a layer of Glossy Accents to give the letters extra height and shine. The word merry comes from a really useful sentiment set from a previous release called Holly Jolly, which has 17 different Christmas sentiments in all kinds of fonts. I cut one of these in half and used just the ‘Merry’.

I’m really happy that I was able to create a light, bright fun card that is still most definitely Christmassy. Also, this design would be a great card sketch for all sorts of cards, not just Christmas.

Until next time, stay safe everybody!

Blessings,

Donna
