Chaos is the Game

Hi friends, this is Caitlin from Caitlin Annalee Cards and today we are celebrating Mommas. I have a very soft spot in my heart for the Mom Life Stamp Set and it was time to break it out again this week. The only thing I love more than a punny sentiment is an honest sentiment and this stamp set takes a very honest look at motherhood.

I knew that I wanted to create a Mother’s Day card with this set and I decided that pink would be a good color to start with. I grabbed the Dress Shop Premium Dye Ink and the Candy Stripe Stencil and started making a background panel. I started by taping my white card base to stencil from the back and used a Mini Ergonomic Blending Brush to lightly apply a layer of the pink ink over it. I focused most of the color in the center of the panel and let the color fade out at the edges. Then I rotated the stencil 180 degrees and repeated the process creating a diamond plaid pattern. To add even more interest to the background, I stamped the coffee mug and bottle images in the same ink color all over in a random pattern. I stamped my image once onto scrap paper after inking it up before I stamped the background to keep the color soft.

I decided on the mom drinking coffee image from the stamp set and inked it up with the Asphalt Premium Dye Ink. I let my stamped image dry for about ten minutes because the ink pads are very juicy and then I colored her up with Copic Markers. I tried to match the Dress Shop ink the best that I could and I added some leopard print to her robe. I used the Coordinating Dies to cut out the image and when I held her up to the background, I realized that she needed a better platform to live on. There was just too much going on and she got lost.

I cut a piece of Ice Rink Card Stock with one of the smaller Scalloped Oval Dies and added that to the card panel with EZ Squeeze Glue. I stamped the sentiment under the oval with the Asphalt ink and I added Foam Tape to the back of my stamped image. I added her to the oval and I love how it makes her really stand out while allowing the background to still be custom and fun. This card makes my heart happy and I hope it inspires you to make your own custom background/pattern paper.
