A Beautiful Life – Butterfly Card

Hi friends, this is Caitlin from Caitlin Annalee Cards sharing a soft and encouraging card that will definitely make the recipient smile. I have been making so many bright and glittery cards lately that I decided I wanted to play with something a little softer and more neutral. The starting point for the this card was the Pretty Butterflies 6×6 Embossing Folder which is so full of detail and creates the most beautiful background. I decided to use it with a panel of Pebble Card Stock that I had trimmed down to 5.25 in x 4 in so that there would be very thin border around it. I wasn’t sure at this point what color I wanted for my base panel so I jumped ahead to my main image.

I stamped out the Butterfly from the Floral Wings stamp set with the Asphalt Ink and set it aside to dry for a few minutes. I used BV and RV markers to color in the butterfly and flowers and then decided that BG markers would be best for the greenery to go with all of the other cool tones. Once the image was colored I knew that I wanted to balance out the black of the butterfly’s patterns with a black background and sentiment strip. I grabbed the Extra Large Sentiment Strip Dies and found one that fit perfectly across my card in the portrait orientation. I prepped some scrap black card stock with the Magic Anti Static Brush and stamped one of the sentiments from the Floral Wings set with the Embossing Ink. I added some of the Frosting Embossing Powder and then heat set it with a heat gun. I adhered the sentiment strip flat to the panel with the EZ Squeeze Liquid Glue and used the coordinating dies to cut out the butterfly image.

I decided to pop up the butterfly above the sentiment strip with foam tape to add a little extra dimension and interest. The overall tone of the whole card was more simple so instead of adding gems or glitter, I decided on pearls for the embellishments. I used five of the cooler toned white pearls from the Essential Pearls wheel, adding 3 to the panel and 2 to the butterfly image with the liquid glue. I think this card is beautiful and it’s the perfect thing to have ready to send to friends or family who may need a long distance hug.
