A Foiled Happy Birthday!

Hi friends! This is Caitlin from Caitlin Annalee Cards and today we are celebrating my baby’s birthday. Today, my youngest turns six and I wanted to make her an extra special birthday card. I knew as soon as I saw the Floating By stamp set that I needed to use the unicorn image. My daughter loves unicorns and glitter so I knew I had to bring in some extra sparkle for this project as well.

I started out stamping the unicorn image, two of the single balloons and the bunch of balloons with the Asphault premium ink onto coloring card stock. I like to let these images dry for a few minutes before I color them with copic markers because that new ink pads are so juicy. I used a cool tone color scheme for my card with teal as my starting point adding in pink, purple and blue. Once my coloring was done, I went back and added in the Happy Birthday sentiment into the middle pink balloon. I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images and then I added Touch of Gloss to the balloons. I set them aside to dry and then it was time to tackle the backgound.

I bought some Mink holographic silver glitter foil back when the Black and White Paper Pack came out becuase they are printed with toner and can be foiled but was to nervous to try it. I decided that today was the day to be brave and I have to tell you, it was so freaking easy! I’m kicking myself for waiting this long to try it. I decided on the confetti/sprinkle pattern from the paper pack and heated up my laminator. I placed a sheet of the foil face up over the pattern paper and tucked them both into a folded piece of parchment paper and ran it through the laminator. I have a reel up on instagram of this process if you want to see it in real life. It came out perfectly and peeling off the foil was so satisfying. I trimmed down the panel to 3.75 in x 5 in so that I could pick another card stock to frame behind it. To add even more interest to the background, I went in with the Night Sky Ink and one of the Mini Ergonomic Blending Brushes and created an ombre blend across the background. The foil resists the ink so you dont have to worry about the foil getting cloudy or anything like that.

To bring it all together I folded a side folding card base and added a dark teal panel from the Year Round Dots & Stripes Paper Pack directly with the EZ Squeeze Glue. Then I added to the foil and ink panel with the new Foam Tape to help add some extra dimension. The last step was to add the stamped images and I created a diagonal flow across the panel with the unicorn and balloons. I glued the two single balloons and the unicorn flat with liquid glue and then added tiny bits of the foam tape behind the balloon bunch and added them on top. This card turned out so sweet and I cannot wait to see what my daughter thinks of it!
