Hi friends! This is Caitlin from Caitlin Annalee Cards and today I’m sharing a fun winter Valentine’s Card. I absolutely when you can use a stamp for more than one theme so I played with taking the winter penguins from the Snow One Like You Stamp set and coloring them up to fit into a love card. The really fun part of this project was making them a background that really helped to support that love theme as well and I think this turned out so sweet!
I started off this card by stamping and coloring two of the penguin images that are holding/throwing snow balls. I thought they worked really well together and would make a cute couple. I stamped the images with the Asphalt Premium Dye Ink and let it dry for a couple minutes. Then I colored them in with Copic markers. I gave them rose pink accessories and decided to shade the snow in with some very soft blue-violet markers to help build up the fun and lovey vibes. I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images and then I decided I wanted to figure out a sentiment next. I borrowed a sentiment from the Frosty Hello stamp set because it has coordinating sentiment dies and I decided to heat emboss it for an extra special touch. To help it pop even though it’s smaller, I used the Black Ice Embossing Powder on Salon Card Stock for some fun and sparkle and I love how it ended up tying in the background paper.
Speaking of paper, the next step was to build my images a base to hang out on. I started out with my usual side folding A2 card base but I turned it to be a landscape layout this time. I trimmed down a piece of black and white plaid from the Black Tie Party Paper Pack to 5.5 in x 4.25 in and attached it to the base. Then I used the Stitched Arch Dies to cut out a piece of white card stock and a piece of Salon Card Stock for layering. I wanted to create a fun background for the penguins, but not a “scene” necessarily. I decided to create a swirly sky for them on the white die cut out with the Curly Waves Stencil and the Dress Shop Ink. To get a lighter effect, I tapped my Mini Ergonomic brush onto a piece of scrap paper before blending the ink onto the card stock.
I layered the arches onto the card base flat with liquid glue and then added the penguins with thin foam tape for some extra dimension. For a fun little bit of shine, I added three sets of 2 pink pearls from the Pastel Pearls Wheel. I love how sweet and happy this card turned out and I hope you are feeling inspired to look at your craft stash and see what sets you can use in a new way.
