Spring Wreath – Hand Coloured Paper

Hello crafty friends. It’s Donna, sharing a bright Spring card. Spring is here, even if just in name! As I mentioned last time, it’s all about the cherry blossoms here in Japan. They’re not here yet, but the plums are in full bloom, and they smell divine.

I’ve drawn inspiration from the bright pinks of the blossoms today to bring you a card that is bursting with flowers. This card has no colouring, but I have hand coloured my watercolour papers to get the range of hues that you see here.

Firstly, the background is coloured using Distress Oxide inks in Wild Honey, Abandoned Coral and Picked Raspberry to give a graduated effect. I then used Colorburst and Brusho powders to colour two pieces of watercolour paper- one in pinks and corals, and one in greens and yellows. I then ran the pieces of the Spring Wreath Seasonal Dies and Wreath Base Dies through my die cutting machine, several times! I have a full wreath, and I then cut a second partial wreath and used parts of it to add extra foliage. The thinner foliage is from the Spring wreath die.

Once I had all my pieces, I laid them out on my coloured card until I was pleased with the layout. I find it very hard to pull out when making wreath cards. I’m of the ‘More is More’ school of wreath cards, it would seem! Starting from the bottom, I stuck down the pieces, until the whole wreath was complete.

The sentiment is from the Sweet Bouquets Stamp set. The Sweet Bouquets Dies that match this stamp set have some lovely little fishtail banners that match the sentiments perfectly. I used a tiny scrap of leftover green watercolour paper to stamp and cut the sentiment. (With quite a lot of trepidation, as it was the last little piece I had, and if it didn’t work out first time, I was going to have to make more coloured paper!)

Here’s a close up of the different shades in the papers and the lovely spring die shapes in the set.

I hope you are feeling encouraged to get crafty – even make a spring card!

Until next time, may your days be sunny, and your heart too.

Blessings,

Donna
