Fall Friends Gatefold Card

Hello! It’s Lynnea and today I have a fun gatefold card using the new Basket Cover die! I originally saw this design on Jennifer McGuire’s blog and fell in love with it! When I got my hands on the new cover die from the August release I knew I HAD to try this technique!

To start I die cut the Basket Cover Die twice from heavy weight cardstock. I used my score board and carefully scored each one in half at the 4.25″ mark. I folded each of them in half and positioned them so that they opened in the center and the score lines were both on the outside. I grabbed a standard 4.25″ by 5.5″ card base and trimmed just a hair off of one side just to make it fit a bit better and used strong liquid adhesive to glue the two folded die cut pieces to the back of my card. Because the die cut panels are adhered to the back of the card base, the outside flaps open out, but the inside card still opens at the top like normal.

Next I die cut a piece of white cardstock and a piece of patterned paper from the Sunrise paper pad using the Stitched Top Note Dies. On the white cardstock I created a little scene using some Distress Ink and the Clouds stencil. I stamped my images from the Fall Friends stamp set onto watercolor cardstock with black ink and also gold heat embossed my sentiment. Once everything was watercolored I used the coordinating Fall Friends dies to cut out my images.

I adhered my scene to the left side of the “gate” on the die cut panel only making sure that no glue got on the actual card base. I decided to die cut another Stitched Top Note die to adhere on the inside of the “gate” to make it look more finished. Then I positioned the die cut patterned paper piece on the inside directly lined up with the outside die cut. When the “gate” opens there is the fun pop of patterned paper on the inside!

And I just love these happy little hedgehogs! They make my heart happy!

I usually don’t decorate the inside of my cards, but I couldn’t leave the inside of this one blank! It needed a little bit of fun on the inside, too! So added some images I didn’t use on the front – I always color extra in case I make a mistake and often have little images left over.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little tutorial! See you next time!
