Dry Embossing with Dies | Basket Cover Die

Hello everybody and welcome to Pink And Main blog!

We all want our cards to look as sophisticated as manufactured cards. Many of us enjoy spicing up cards with special details to make them not only visually attractive, but also pleasant to touch and hold in hands.

Adding texture to your handmade cards will bring your creations to a new level of craftsmanship.

It is Ksenija here today and I will show you an effortless way to create texture on your cards with steel cover dies.

To make this card you will need

I started with trimming a card panel down to 4 by 5.25 inches, masking off a horizontal stripe for ink blending and applying dye inks from warm yellow tone to a light blue. To heat set ink blending I warmed it up with my heat gun.

To dry emboss the panel I made a special sandwich with the platform: all tabs open, one cutting pad, a silicon mat, the card panel face up, the Basket Cover Die face down, then another cutting pad. I am using a heavy card stock 110 lb, and this sandwich works perfectly without tearing it.

For my today’s card I picked a cute hedgehog from the Fall Friends stamps set, die cut and stamped it with alcohol markers friendly ink and then coloured it.

The sentiment from the same set is heat embossed to a black stripe in fine white powder.

Instead of using sequins or other embellishments I suggest dye cutting and colouring several leaves from the Fall Friends set. They are tiny enough to delicately decorate a card and create a dynamic look.

To assemble my card I used 2 mm thick fun foam to pop up the panel and a thick foam tape to adhere the focal image and the sentiment stripe.

There are many ways to use cover die: blend inks onto a card panel and die cut it or die cut the panel from various colours card stock. Today I demonstrated a new technique to extend use of your cover dies for hand made cards.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!
