A Tropical Christmas

Hello there!  It’s Andrea with you today sharing a tropical Christmas card.  “Why tropical?” you might ask.  Because here in the southern United States, it’s just too hot to think about snow.  Truth be told, growing up in Georgia, I can remember quite a few warm Christmases (no need for ugly sweaters because we’re still wearing flip flops!).  Needless to say, I couldn’t help but play with the Deck the Palms set for my first official Christmas project.

Aren’t those images from Deck the Palms fun?!  I love the lights wrapped around the trees and the garland of stockings.  After stamping the images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, I colored them with Copics and cut them out with the coordinating dies.

To create the background for my scene, I inked up three pieces of Bristol Smooth paper with distress inks.  For the sand I used Brushed Corduroy and Tea Dye and die-cut with the Scallop Waves Dies.  The water was created with Mermaid Lagoon, Broken China, and Chipped Sapphire and was die-cut with the Scallop Border Dies.  That in-your-face sky (Yeah, it’s even a bit bright for me!) is compliments of Worn Lipstick, Abandoned Coral, and Festive Berries distress inks.  Onto all of the ink-blended panels I flicked on some water and blotted it dry.

To create a frame for my scene, I die-cut a 5 1/4″ white square with the Stitched Circle Dies.  I layered my ink-blended pieces together and adhered my frame on top with foam tape.  I stamped a sentiment from Deck the Palms in black, glued the panel to a 5 1/2″ white card, and adhered my colored images, popping up the flip flops with foam adhesive.  I used a white gel pen to add highlights to the images and a glitter pen to give them some sparkle.  For some extra bling, I added a few clear sequins.
